How to make Baby's 1st Thanksgiving Ribbon Pull Softie Turkey Toy

You Will Need:

brown soft fabric for the turkey body
lots of ribbon and rick-rack in fall colors for the turkey feathers
brown ribbon for the turkey legs and wings
white, black, gold, and red fabric scraps
quilt batting scraps (warm & natural is our favorite)
basic sewing supplies

Here's a special treat for baby's 1st Thanksgiving... a little turkey ribbon pull softie toy.

Let's Make the Turkey Patten:

Trace a luncheon plate on the bottom part of an 8.5"x11" piece of computer paper.

Then trace a cup-n-saucer plate above the luncheon plate circle as shown in the photo.
How to make Baby's 1st Thanksgiving Ribbon Pull Softie Turkey Toy Using the turkey pattern you just made, pin and cut out two from brown fabric and one piece from quilt batting.
How to make Baby's 1st Thanksgiving Ribbon Pull Softie Turkey Toy From scraps of fabric and felt cut out two eyes, both the white part and the black part, one yellow beak, and one red or orange gobbler.

Pin them in place on ONE of the pretty side of the turkey pieces. This will be the front of the turkey. Stitch around the pieces using a tight zig-zag stitch.

Using brown ribbon cut six 4.5" pieces of ribbon. Fold each piece in half and pin the raw edges to the raw edges of the turkey front as shown.

Stitch at raw edge to hold in place.

How to make Baby's 1st Thanksgiving Ribbon Pull Softie Turkey Toy Now let's give the cute little turkey some colorful feathers!

Cut 4.5" pieces of fall color ribbons and rick-rack. Fold and pin in place on top of the head the same way you did the legs and wings.

Stitch in place on raw edge.

How to make Baby's 1st Thanksgiving Ribbon Pull Softie Turkey Toy Place the quilt batting turkey piece on the table, then place the two turkey pieces PRETTY SIDES together and pin around the turkey as shown.

Sew around the turkey 1/4" along the edge leaving a 4" opening for turning and stuffing.

Trim the seams and the extra ribbon.
How to make Baby's 1st Thanksgiving Ribbon Pull Softie Turkey Toy Turn the baby ribbon pull turkey toy pretty sides out and hand-stitch the opening closed. Top stitch around the eyes, nose, and gobbler. Quilt the turkey body as desired.

Baby's 1st Thanksgiving can be extra special now that he/she has a handmade soft turkey ribbon pull toy.
