Trace around the turkey and wing pattern provided onto a double layer of white muslin.

Sew around the edges for Benedict, the Rustic Proud Thanksgiving Turkey Craft. Sew on the traced line leaving an opening on the side of the wing for turning and stuffing, and an opening on the side of the turkey.

Then trim around the turkey and wing where you just sewed leaving a 1/4" allowance.

Turn Benedict the turkey pretty side out. Turn the turkey and wing pretty side out.

Sew two 4" vertical lines on the turkey to create your feathers.

Sew two 2" horizontal lines across the wings to create your feathers.

Stuff Benedict the turkey then hand sew the opening closed. Stuff the turkey and wing stuffing the feather areas first.
How to make Benedict, the Rustic Proud Thanksgiving Turkey Craft Hand sew the openings closed.
Paint Benedict's feathers then bake in the oven for the Thanksgiving turkey craft. Paint the feathers. Paint one feather red, one gold, and one orange.

Paint the beak gold.

Using a strong stain mixture (1/4 cup of instant coffee mixed with 1 cup of warm water and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon) paint the whole turkey body and wing on both sides.

Place both on a cookie sheet covered in foil and bake until dry at 170 degrees. You may want to flip the pieces every once in awhile to keep from burning. Keep a good eye on it.

(If you look at the photo at the top you will see that Benedict's wing and body have burnt areas. I happen to like that look and did that on purpose. I did not turn them the entire time they were drying, and therefore the parts that were on the foil "burned" a little bit.)

How to make Benedict, the Rustic Proud Thanksgiving Turkey Craft Cut a 1" piece of red fabric or felt into the shape of a gobbler and hot glue onto Benedict's neck area.

Using a black permanent marker make an eye and eyebrow on both sides of Benedict's face.

Last using raffia, ribbon, or ripped cotton fall fabric hot glue a bow on the front of Benedict.
