Direction to go in Seam Stitching

Yes, there is a certain direction that seams should be stitched.  This is not found on any pattern direction page that I have ever looked at, but the expert seamstresses will tell you this is the correct way to sew seams. Occasionally some commercial patterns will have an arrow pointing the direction the way a seam should be sewn. Helpful hints are Listed below.

Dresses or Skirts - should be sewn from the HEMLINE to the waistline or underarm.

Bodice (top part of dress, top, or jacket)- should be sewn from the UNDERARM to the waist.

Shoulder - should be sewn from NECK edge to the shoulder.

Pants or Shorts - should be sewn from the hem to the crotch or waistline.
