Stay WARM This Winter by Stitching Up a Raggedy Quilt. They are Quick and Easy to Sew and Make Great Presents!

How to Make a Quick and Easy Placemat For Your Pet

Your dog or puppy will love this adorable placemat for it's food bowl. Use bright colors with fun doggy prints on it to brighten up his food area.

First find or draw a dog bone pattern about 8" X 5".  You are more than welcome to use my pattern shown to the left.

Just copy and paste the photo to a word document.  Then enlarge it enough so that is measures about 8" X 5". Print it, and you have a pattern you can use over and over again.

Pin and cut one dog bone to use as an appliqué for your dog placemat.

You will need:

-one 18" X 10" piece of quilt batting

-one 13" X 10" top center fabric

-two 10" X 3.5" strips of fabric for sides

-1 small piece of fabric for bone

-one 18" X 10" piece of fabric for back

We will be appliquéing the bone in place.

Place the bone, pretty side up, in the center of the center top piece of fabric which is also pretty side up. Pin in place.

Zigzag stitch as close the edge of the bone as possible.

Place both sides PRETTY SIDES TOGETHER on the center top piece.  Pin in place.

Stitch the sides using a 1/4" seam allowance.

Press the seams towards the center as shown in the photo.
Place the quilt batting flat on the table. On top of that place the backing of your mat with the pretty side up, last, place the top of your place mat pretty side down as shown in the photo.

Pin around the edges, leaving an opening at the bottom as shown in the photo.

Stitch 1/4" seam allowance around the mat making sure you leave an opening at the bottom.

Trim around the edges if need be.  Be careful not to cut into your stitching line.

Turn your mat to pretty side out.

Press your dog placemat so it lies nice and flat.

Hand stitch the opening closed.

Your dog placemat is finished.  Send us a photo of your dog and his new placemat.  We'd love to see your work.
