Sewing with Fake (Faux) Fur Fabric

Fake fur is fun to work with.

About fur - Sewing with fur can be challenging but fun. If you are easily bothered by animal fur, feathers, dust, or small particles, I suggest you not work with fur, as unavoidable little pieces of fur fly into the air and may agitate you.
Uses with fur - Stuffed teddy bears and animals, pillows, pocket books, and lots more crafts can be made from fur.  Halloween costumes can be made from fur too. Fur can be used for coats, coat trim, hats, gloves, and more.
Average Cost - Fur can cost about $6.00-$55.00 a yard depending on the type of fur you are interested in.
Comments - Once you have stitched a seam, take a brush and gently go along your seam.  This allows the fur to stand back up and helps to hide your seam. Remember that fur is a thick fabric.  Your sewing machine may sound a little funny or louder when sewing with fur.

When cutting fur, cut from the ugly side and only cut the ugly side if you can. Use the tip of your scissors. Do not cut into the fur part, if you do there will be "fuzzys" all over the  place.

If at all possible rip the fur instead of cutting it. This eliminates all "fuzzys" in your face and every where.

Tips on Working with faux fur:

After you have made a seam in your fur fabric, take a needle and go along the seam pulling up the fur. Or use a brush and go along the seam you just sewed.  Pulling out the fur on the seams gives a nice professional look.  Also when pinning to pieces of fur fabric together, push the fur in the seam while pinning so that as little fur as possible is "hanging" out where you pinned.
