Below are some
common measurements.

This is a "bolt" of fabric.
This is how most fabric is shipped and shown in fabric stores.

Fabric is measured by the
yard. This shows the tape measure extending to 36", one yard. |

This photo shows 1/2 of a
yard measurement. (18") |

This photo shows 1/4 of a
yard. Quilters call this measurement, a "Fat Quarter". |

As you can see behind this
student, fabric can also come on a roll. This makes it much easier
to work with because it lies flat on the roll with no wrinkles or folds in
it. |

Fabric is shipped
to your local fabric shop by rolls, bolts, or flats. Then it is nicely
displayed for your shopping. Most bolts come in measurements of 45" or
60". |
