This is how most fabric is shipped and shown in fabric stores.
Fabric is measured by the
yard. This shows the tape measure extending to 36", one yard.
This photo shows 1/2 of a
yard measurement. (18")
This photo shows 1/4 of a
yard. Quilters call this measurement, a "Fat Quarter".
As you can see behind this
student, fabric can also come on a roll. This makes it much easier
to work with because it lies flat on the roll with no wrinkles or folds in
it.
Fabric is shipped
to your local fabric shop by rolls, bolts, or flats. Then it is nicely
displayed for your shopping. Most bolts come in measurements of 45" or
60".
