"Sarah's Old-fashioned Molasses Sugar Cookies"

 

"MMMM", these cookies are so good... and soft and chewy.  They look perfect, like store bought.  My friend Sarah gave me this recipe.  It has been passed down 4 generations in her family. These Old-Fashioned Molasses Sugar Cookies are great during the cool fall months and into winter time.  Just after baking them, try a warm cookie with hot-chocolate.

 

Sarah's Old-fashioned Molasses Sugar Cookies

3/4 cup of shortening

1 cup of sugar

1/4 cup Brer Rabbit Molasses (mild flavor with the gold label)

1 egg

2 tsp. baking soda

2 cup sifted all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp. cloves

1/2 tsp. ginger

1 tsp. cinnamon

1/2 tsp. salt

Melt shortening in a 3 or 4 quart saucepan over low heat. Remove from heat; let cool.  Add sugar, molasses and egg; beat well.  Sift together dry ingredients; add to first mixture.  Mix well; chill. 

Form in 1 inch balls, roll in granulated sugar and place on greased cookie sheets 2 inches apart.  Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes.
