Dress Forms for Making Your Own Clothes

Fashion Design Summer Camps 2005

Photo page

Each year we have some students who design their own clothes, but for some reason 2005 took a huge leap in the "Fashion Design" summer camps.  The students were required to draw their sketches, find fabric, matching supplies and accessories, find or make a pattern, and make their outfit.  I am so proud of all of them... The outfits look fantastic and a job well done to everyone!!!

Jacqueline wanted to make the "Sinking Coat" from James Cameron's 1997 block buster hit movie, "Titanic." The original coat from the movie was made of light pink wool, however Jacqueline wanted to wear the coat year round so she made it from light pink corduroy.  Her trim in the sleeves and collar was made from tedious cuttings of black lace fabric and applying them by appliqué.

Wonderful job Jacqueline!!!!

Kate made this absolutely adorable outfit to have fun in during the last days of summer.  Her top was made from a black 4 way stretch knit.  Her cute 3 tier skirt and matching handbag was made from 100 % cotton fabrics. Her original sketch was for a white top but in the making of the outfit black ended up looking better.

Great job Kate!!!

Heather was looking for an "off the shoulder" top, and a matching skirt trimmed in black lace and buttons.  Heather designed and made this outfit with no pattern, great job!!!

April wanted to make a broom skirt.  She made and designed this skirt from strips of fabric, no pattern was used.  She finished her skirt with having a tiny bit of pink lace showing on the hem.  Great job April.

Catherine was looking for a blue short skirt with the paint splattered look and white lace at the hem.  She topped this outfit off by add a matching cute little purse.  Excellent job Catherine!!!

If you really are interested in Fashion Design than familiarize yourself with the latest and currant fashion trends and the most popular fashion designers by looking through fashion magazines and fashion books in the industry. Take a sewing class, a sketch class, and learn about pattern making.

Amber was looking into making a skirt... then she decided to make a dress of ultra suede and tweed. She added blue lace to the top and hem.  Then she took plain black suede shoes and added lace and buttons by hand sewing them on to  complete her outfit.

Morgan was looking for the multi- fabric prints in one look and found it as shown above.  She topped her skirt off with a denim trim on the side with hot pink lace, and a denim pocket with lace, feathers, and buttons.

Olivia was looking for a cute skort that she could play tennis in.  She wanted to add flowers and an ant to give the "picnic" "outdoorsy" look as seen above.

Katherine was looking into turning an old pair of jeans into a flirty, feminine skirt with a matching pocket book.  She added layers of ruffled fabric and buttons and lace.
