PROJECT: "fashion FORWARD"

for inspiring designers of ALL AGES...design it, make it, model it

Congratulations to Megan from New Jersey who not only won 1st place in the Elite Division, but she also won 2008 Overall/Outstanding Judges Pick.

We had over 60 participants for this contest in 2008! We were very excited about that. Sewing and Designing and Making your own clothes is awesome!  Thanks to all who entered our 2008 contest and we look forward to seeing all of your work in 2009! Due to space we have only posted our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners photos, and named our 4th and 5th place winners. Awards were given up to 8th place in every age group and every category. Your awards will be mailed by April 12th and you should receive them by the end of April.

Novice Division: ages 8-11

1st Place - 11 year old Samantha from Pennsylvania

2nd Place - 11 year old Erika from Delaware

(Very cool Erika, we love how the halter top was made. The outfit looks great on you!)

3rd Place - 10 year old Ali from Pennsylvania

(This looks adorable on you Ali!  We loved how you brought the lilac into the shorts with your flower appliqué...very cute.)

4th Place - Zoe, 11 years old - PA

5th Place - Emily, 10 years old - PA

(22 participants were in this age division)

Dress Making/Fashion Design Contest 2009

PROJECT: "fashion FORWARD"

Design it, Make it, Model it...

Junior Division: ages 12-14

1st Place - 14 year old Mengying from California

(Congratulations Mengying on winning 1st in your age division with this adorable lilac dress you made.  We love the criss-cross ribbon and lace throughout the dress.  You look beautiful!)

2nd Place - 13 year old Lindsey  from New Jersey

(Lindsey, ...You look marvelous! We love the natural greenery belt you made and the bottom trim with leaves and pink flowers picked from the garden! Great job.)

3rd Place - 14 year old Bethany from Pennsylvania

(Great job on the silk kimono and black karate pants Bethany. It suits you well!)

4th Place - 12 year old Rachel from Delaware

5th Place - 13 year old Asebea from New York

(24 participants were in this age division)

Senior Division: ages 15-18

1st Place - 16 year old Heather from Pennsylvania

(A well deserved 1st place win for 16 year old Heather from Pennsylvania.  This couture dress was made mostly by hand. Below is a close up of the front midriff section which was made by tiny pleating.  Her inspiration? The pink bra which was the base of the dress and then made from that point. Great job Heather!)

2nd Place - 18 year old Jackie from Pennsylvania

(Jackie's inspiration for her cute little party dress? Natalie Portman. This adorable  little dress has a heart shape front and black lace for the bottom section.  Very Natalie, Jackie!)

3rd Place - 15 year old Catie from Pennsylvania

(Catie looks great in her cross halter dress that she designed herself from both knit fabric and satin using no patterns.  This was only her 2nd attempt at draping a dress.  Great job!)

4th Place - Heather, 16 years old - PA

5th Place - Jackie, 18 years old - PA

(8 participants were in this age division)

Elite Division: ages 19-35

1st Place - 23 year old Megan from New Jersey

(What an absolutely stunning gown!  A lot of work went into this gown and it shows. We were very impressed with Megan's gown especially the layers and layers of ruffles on the back, and the detailed handwork that went on the front of the gown. You look FABULOUS!)

Megan also won 2008 Overall/Outstanding Judges Pick

2nd Place - Kristen, 30 years old from Arizona

(Kristen, what an awesome fabulous fit on the body builder with the Greek Goddess type of costume you made!  Nice job on the fit and on the design. I am going to Pump You Up!)

(Michelle, what a classy dress designed and made. We love the side slits on the dress! You look stunning!)
