The Hunger Games

Young student designer Anneliese spent almost an entire year in her weekly sewing class designing and making her three Hunger Games look for her very first fashion show. She scored highest point and won "Best Over All Collection" as the youngest designer in the senior division for her collection. She wanted to show three different looks of Katniss Everdeen, the main character in the books and movie.

Harry Potter

Young sewing student Sara shows us her velvet hooded Harry Potter cape she made.

(left)- Sara, a true Harry Potter fan, just like Jessica, wanted to make her own robe. Her robe or cape was made from  beautiful black velvet fabric, and her hood was lined with deep purple velvet fabric. She added a large Hogwarts emblem patch on her robe to make it official.

(below)Jessica made the following for her "Harry Potter, Hermione" costume: the pleated skirt, the hat, the robe with a hidden wand compartment, the tags on her robe, and the large Harry Potter books.  She even sewed a "Hogwarts" logo on the back of the robe. On opening day of the new book many people were asking to have their picture taken with Jess.

Erika sewed a Dementor costume inspired by Harry Potter. She ripped the bottom to create the look.

(Left)

Erika of Hockessin, Delaware made a dementor costume from Harry Potter.  She made it from black crushed velvet fabric and slit the fabric at the hem and arms to create the "demon" look.  Great job Erika.

Titanic

Sewing student Jackie makes her version of the "Sinking Coat" from the movie Titanic. Here you will find photos from our students and readers that designed and made costumes from the inspiration of television, movies, and film.

One of our students Jacqueline wanted to make her version of Rose DeWitt Bukater's "Sinking Coat" from James Cameron's 1997 block buster hit movie, "Titanic." The original coat from the movie was made of light pink wool, however Jacqueline wanted to wear the coat year round so she made it from a light pink corduroy fabric.  The embellished trim on the sleeves and collar was done by swirling and appliquéing tedious cuttings of black lace fabric.

Wonderful job Jacqueline!!!!
