Learn to Sew Girly Goth Outfit

An elegant, macabre aesthetic has never been more easy to achieve than with The Girly Goth look! This style appeared in an advertisement for the Love to Sew website in Irish Quilting magazine, and although it looks difficult, you can make it, too. The blouse was created from a repurposed black t-shirt. The side seams were brought in for a form-fitting style and the top of the shirt was scalloped out and then lace was stitched in beneath the collar. The skirt is a double layer of black silk and lace to match the top, made using a simple elastic waistband. Don’t forget to check out the directions for the feather and lace headpiece, the lovely and simply three-stitch fingerless gloves, and our adorable fiend-friend, Batty! Modeling this look are students Katie and Christina, who helped make the look.

All the "How to" tutorials for this look will be posted on or before July 15, 2011.

Redesign Black T-shirt

Learn to take an old black tee and turn it into Old World elegance. With this project, you will learn how to alter the t-shirt to a perfect fit, how to stitch jersey fabric, how to evenly scallop the top and sew on lace, and how to alter the neck band so that it becomes a high collar.

Fingerless Lace Gloves

These simple, fingerless lace gloves are made using an elastic casting at the forearm and include darts towards the hand to shape them. Skip Hot Topic this time--this awesome accessory is easy enough to sew-up at home.

Lace Overlay Skirt

This dark and refined skirt is much more simple to sew than it looks. It is made basting two different fabrics together (in our case a black silk and black lace) and using them to make an elastic waistband skirt. For contrast, try a white underlay with black lace or netting overtop. Learn how here.

Our Cute Lil' Batty

Batty is the perfect Halloween decoration, or the perfect room decoration for girls for whom everyday is Halloween! He’s fun and easy to make. We used felt and woolen fabrics, but cottons will work just as well. You will learn how to zig-zag applique and hand-stitch closed an opening so that no threads or stitching show!

The Goth Rosette Headpiece

Learn how to hand-sew a rosette and how to adorn the perfect headpiece with netting and feathers to finish the look!
