Dress Forms for Making Your Own Clothes

How to throw a Harry Potter Party... costumes, decorations, recipes, props, and ideas for throwing a great Harry Potter party.

Every Harry Potter needs a "host".  Hermione, played by Emma Watson in the movies, is our host for this party. Her outfit is handmade or borrowed from head to toe. She made her robe by using a simplicity pattern, she designed and made her pleated skirt , and she borrowed daddy's white shirt and tie. Her Harry Potter wand was made from stained wood, and her books were made from cereal boxes that she painted!

Have a Harry Potter Quiz on hand too!

The Harry Potter series is so incredibly popular with kids of all ages because it is so well written, imaginative and filled with fantastic characters. You should try to make costumes based on the Harry Potter movies or books. Something fun to do would be to make your own costume and then have Mom and Dad check out all the great Halloween costumes  online for the rest of the family. Dad as Dumbledore, Mom as Professor McGonagall and the kids as Harry and the Dursleys! That would make for a great Halloween!

Decorate your rooms from top to bottom with Harry Potter decor. Harry Potter hats were made from black and orange fabric, and Hogwarts books were made from old cereal boxes of different sizes.

Delicious Harry Potter Butterbeer was served. "mmmmm" See our favorite recipe below.

Everyone had to go through the platform 9 3/4 to enter the Harry Potter Chamber. This was made by painting bricks on muslin fabric.

Everyone had to dress as a character from the Harry Potter book series to enter.

Antique bottles laying around the house were used as "potion" bottles with water and food coloring in them for effect.  Plastic snakes and frogs were added to this Professor Snakes display.

Harry Potter Hats and Harry Potter brooms were hung from the ceiling in each of the rooms by fishing line, which is like a clear piece of thread, making everyone wondering how they were suspended in the air.

More cool wizardry and Harry Potter decorations.

To be in the Muggle world, as soon as your guest arrive have them take a sorting test to see which house they belong in whether Slytherin, , Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, or Hufflepuff.

Last but not least, if you have extra time at your party and everyone is having such a great time that they don't want to leave, then pop out the "Harry Potter" game!!!

 Harry Potter Butterbeer Recipe:

(There are plenty of Butterbeer recipes you can find on the internet, and we've tried just about all of them, but this is our favorite.) This makes one serving, so for a party of 25 guest, you can imagine how much root beer, butter, and cream we had to buy.

12 oz. of root beer soda (room temperature)

1/8 cup of butter

1/8 cup of cream

1. Melt the butter in microwave dish

2. Put the root beer in a large microwave dish and heat slowly, (start with the root beer at room temperature)

3. Add the cream and melted butter

4. Basically..., heat, mix, stir, and taste until the Butterbeer is the way you like it!!!
