Learn to Sew The Hippie Chick Outfit

This embellished fitted t-shirt appeared in our "Every Style Has a Common Thread" advertisement. The look was presented as our Bohemian Hippie chick theme, but the beauty of this shirt is that it can fit well meshed with multiple styles. The shirt is made from jersey fabric, which stretches and therefore requires different sewing techniques than cotton and other fabrics. All you need is your favorite girl-cut t-shirt to copy, some knit fabric, and the directions below. The drawstring skirt was made from fabric brought back to the States from West Africa. It was made using no patterns (the fabric was cut based on measurements--a technique you will learn with this project!). The skirt also uses techniques such as button-holes, seam finishing, and making a casing. Click on the link to learn how to make the pieces of the look. Modeling this style are our students Nitzan and Melissa, who helped make the outfits.
