1965 -"The Sound of Music" - Maria, played by Julia Andrews,  leaves the church and becomes a nanny of 7 motherless children.  Who can't forget the scene where she is upset that the children are in "uniforms" so the first thing she does is sew them matching outfits out of the curtains in her bedroom.

DVD; Buy New: $16.38

1974 - 1983 - "Little House on the Prairie" TV series - there were many episodes of sewing and quilting, but the one I remember the most was when Mary was getting sewing lessons from a lady and she made Pa a new shirt by hand that took weeks to make. She gave Pa the gift and he opened it and loved it.  Not knowing, Ma had made Pa the same shirt out of the same fabric. Ma quickly hid her gift and did not give it to Pa, wanting to give Mary all the glory. She didn't want to spoil Mary's accomplishment. She was the perfect mom!

1976 - "Carrie" - A shy, quiet, abused, girl, Carrie White, played by Sissy Spacek, has telekinetic powers and gets pushed too far on one special night.  Not a good movie for kids to see, but she did sew her prom dress in the movie!

1982 - "Annie" - When the girls are in the orphanage and singing "It's a Hard Knock Life" they are sewing in the back ground.
Annie
VHS Tape; Buy New: $13.74

1985 -"Witness" - In this movie Harrison Ford has to protect an Amish boy who witnessed a murder.  He needs to "fit in" with the Amish people.  Throughout the whole movie the Amish women are hand quilting and sewing.
Witness
DVD; Buy New: $12.29

1986 - "Pretty in Pink" - Andie Walsh, played by Molly Ringwald, sews up her own prom gown from old dresses.

If you can remember a "Sewing Scene" in a Hollywood Hit movie, please E-MAIL me with the movie title and year.
