Judges consider the following and more when judging the different categories.

Most Creative Collection

Did the designer make a creative use of the materials? Is there something fun and quirky about the looks that you might not have expected? Is the concept creative? etc. (The designer scoring the highest points with all judges in this category will win “Most Creative Collection.”)

Best Design Innovation

Is there evidence that the designer greatly altered a pattern or created the pattern herself? Did the designer use an old concept or style in a new, refreshing way? Did the designer dye or make her own fabric? Are the techniques in the looks cohesive with the creativity in the line, etc.

Excellence in Construction

Did the designer use advanced techniques? ie. Zippers, pleats, darts, princess seams, inset sleeves, rolled hems, etc..... as opposed to multiple elastic waistbands?

Is everything well-sewn and clean, even if the garment is simple? Or did the designer leave hanging threads, sloppy hems, puckers, incorrect stitching, or fail to press, etc.? Does the garment fit well?

Best Overall Collection

Do the garments fit well? Is the collection cohesive? Is everything well sewn? Is the concept interesting and original? Are colors and textures used to the best advantage? etc.

The judging for the competition categories is done a little bit different and may change or be adjusted according to the competition category if need be. You will be judged in the following areas: Creativity & Design, Construction & Technique, and Execution & Fit.
