How to Make Quilted Kitchen Hot Pads

Spruce up your kitchen decor with matching hot pads.

Easy to make Kitchen Hot Pads

Gather up your supplies and fabrics.  You will need two 10" X 10" pieces of fabric for your hot pad, two 10" X 10" pieces of batting (I use warm and natural) and one heart to appliqué on, in a contrasting color.

Pin the heart on the pretty side of ONE of the hot pad pieces of fabric.  The heart should also be pretty side up as shown in the photo.

Zigzag stitch around the heart as shown in the photo.

Place both batting pieces of fabric on a flat surface.  Then place the 2 hot pad fabric squares on top of the batting.  The hot pad fabric should be pretty sides together.

Pin around the hot pad, pinning through all 4 layers.  Leave a 3-4" opening to turn the hot pad around.  Stitch around the hot pad using the pressure foot as your guide. Don't forget to leave an opening.

Clip the corners of your hot pad.

Turn your hot pad to pretty sides out through the opening.  Using your scissors, push out the corners so they are nice and square as shown in the photo.

Press your hot pad.  Hand stitch the opening closed.  To quilt your hot pad, machine stitch around the edge of the heart going through all 4 layers of fabric.

Your quilted hot pad is done!!!
