Free Knitting Project: How to Knit Pot Holders, Hot Pads, and Trivets / Easy to Knit Craft

Free Knitting Project: How to Knit Pot Holders, Hot Pads, and Trivets / Easy to Knit Craft

Pot holders, Hot Pads, and Trivets are fun projects because not only do they knit up quickly, but itís also one of the first projects you can design yourself. For this project, the only rules are to use yarn thick enough to protect your hands or your table from a hot dish, and to keep the shape in a square or rectangle. This is a great project to practice your color changing skills on too. Both the pot holders and the trivets are worked in seed stitch. Itís the perfect stitch because itís thicker than other stitches.

Materials:

1 pair size 10 Ĺ knitting needles.

1 skein chunky weight yarn, preferably a cotton blend (more protective and washes well)

Cast on 20 stitches.

Row 1: *K1,P1* Continue in pattern till end of row

Row 2: *P1, K1* Continue in pattern till end of row

Repeat rows 1 and 2

Once the project is long enough so all four sides are even, bind off,  trim ends, and tuck in yarn end.

Note for the trivets:

Follow same directions as for coasters, except for this project you can make smaller square-shaped trivets or longer rectangular. Itís nice to have a mix of both for different sized dishes.

An Idea... Make a set of two potholders or trivets and place them together with pretty ribbon tied in a bow to give as a house warming gift along with a casserole dish. Everyone loves handmade gifts because they are made from the heart.
