MLK "In-Service" day at Popcopson School Making Quilts for Sick Children - 2010

Many students from the Unionville school district spent their MLK day off of school... in school...doing some type of service for others. Love To Sew Sewing Studio was asked to gather up some sewing students and come in and help make quilts for sick children.

Children colored squares and left "Get Well" notes on them. We were to turn the colored squares into quilts.  We had a pretty good system down and things were under control.  Kelli and Liam sewed the single squares into doubles, Sarah sewed the doubles into rows of six, and Zoe sewed the rows into quilts!

Here is Liam arranging the colored square for his next row.

Yeah... so we thought we had things under control, but then the colored squares began piling in so quickly and by the dozens...so...we if someone came by and even mentioned they had sewed once in their life...we grabbed them, gave them a quick lesson, and they began sewing squares together too.  Here is one of them...thanks so much to Hailey for pitching in!

Here is Sarah and Kelli hard at work! Kelli is working on her bronze award for girl scouts doing fifteen hours of service.  That is the highest honor you can get as a junior! Awesome Kelli!

The children loved coloring squares and then dropping them off at our station!

It didn't stop there for us, later that night Zoe's mom brought the quilts that weren't finished to our studio and four students whipped up seven more quilts! Thanks so much Ali, Rachel, Zoe, and Shannon for spending your Monday night sewing class helping others in need!

Here is one of the finished quilts that Rachel and Shannon sewed!
