Mother's Day Gifts you can Sew....

A Scented Victorian Silhouette Appliqué Sachet Pillow

A Scented Victorian Silhouette Appliqué Sachet Pillow

A cute Mother's day gift to sew. You can make this silhouette sachet with just scraps of fabric and lace. We will be using the fusible appliqué method.

Gather up some lace, black fabric, wonder-under or some type of Heat Bond, Victorian looking fabric, and stuffing.

Find a photo of your mom and trace the side view to make a silhouette, or just use a sketch of your own, or find something on the internet or in a magazine that you could easily trace around the outer shape.

Cut your Victorian fabric into two squares about the size you would like your sachet.  I cut mine into a 7" square.

Sewing gifts for mother's day. Following the manufacturers guidelines on the heat bond iron the heat bond on the ugly side of the black fabric.

Place your silhouette on top of the black fabric and very carefully cut out the silhouette.

Remove the backing of the heat bond.  Very carefully press the silhouette onto the pretty side of one of the Victorian pieces of fabric.
Pin lace to the pretty side of the top of your pillow as shown in the photo.  Notice the lace is facing IN.  When you turn your pillow pretty side out after sewing it, THEN your lace will be on the outside.
Pin your pillow back pretty side down onto the top piece of pillow, as shown in the photo.

Make an area where you would like to leave a 4" opening.

Stitch around the pillow using the pressure foot as your guide. DON'T forget to leave an opening.

Trim seams and clip corners as shown in the photo.

A Scented Victorian Silhouette Appliqué Sachet Pillow Turn you sachet pretty side out through the opening.  Poke out the corners with a pencil.

Stuff your pillow. Hand stitch the opening closed.

Spray your sachet with your mom's favorite scent.
