Simplicity 2689
Little Girls Pleated Dress/Top
The Good:
This top is an excellent project for young sewers
with a little experience under their belt. It has optional inset
sleeves, and incorporates techniques like pleating, gathering,
using fusible interfacing, and making a shirt facing. Although all
of this sounds difficult at first, taken slowly, I’ve found this
to be a good starter project for girls who have made a few simple
garments (circle skirt, tank top, etc.) and are ready to move on
to the next step. The project has proven popular among our
students and the girls love the look.
The Bad:
It can be difficult to tell the front and back apart,
so you may think about incorporating decorative stitches, buttons, or
other embellishments on the front yoke to help with this. So far, I've
found the girls have the most difficulty stitching the sleeve inside
the armhole. Be sure to baste this first!
My Project:
Many photographs of this project can be found below, as we stated
before this is a favorite among our students.
If you’ve made this project and would like to share your work, send
us pictures! We will be happy to post them here. Also, if you have
anything else to add in regards to the critique of this pattern, we
would love to hear. For both pictures and comments,

Thanks for reading.
