The Making of "Penny the Piano" Costume: DAY SIX

Follow each day and see how 15 year old Lainey, designs and makes the "Penny" costume for the book "Penny the one of a kind Piano" which was recently turned into a musical to be performed at the Snapple theater in New York City, and in D.C. at the Lincoln Center.

Day Six: Well, we're hoping that since the fitting went so well with the actress that this can be our final day and we can finish the gown completely.

Seam ripping out the basting so we can fix and stitch it back up again.

One of the major things we had to fix after the fitting was the keyboard skirt being sewn to far towards the back, which was causing the keyboard skirt to bulk in the front. So one of the first thing we had to do was seam rip out the seam attaching the bodice to the skirt to the gown. This would allow the keyboard to lie freely, and not bulk up. Once we did that, we had to sew up the bodice to the skirt part again, and re-gather it. It was a job, but we did it.
Sewing the hem on Penny the Piano costume. After that we had to do the hem of the gown, stitch the sleeves (they were only basted on for the fitting, do the hem of the sleeves, and put the zipper in.
Penny the Piano costume is finished and ready for her first dress rehearsal! The Penny the Piano gown is finished and ready for a full dress rehearsal!
