How to Make a Standard Size Pillow Case / How to Sew your own Pillow Case

You can sew your own pillowcase!

For this pillow case we have added a nice contrasting border.  I love to mix colors when I design projects.

For this project you will be using the pressure foot as your guide or a 1/4" seam allowance.

You will need:

One 44 X 28" rectangle (the main part or body of the pillow case)

One 44 X 9" rectangle (the border part of the pillow case)

Let's work on the border first. Pin the 9" sides of the border PRETTY SIDES TOGETHER as shown in the photo. Stitch the seam.

Fold the border in half with the UGLY sides together.  The pretty sides will be on the outside as shown in the photo.

PRESS so that it lies nice and flat. Stitch the raw edges together around the tube.

(The purpose of this is just to hold it together to make it easier when matching it with the pillowcase part.)

Now for the pillowcase part.

Pin the 28" sides PRETTY SIDES together. Stitch.

Now pin and stitch ONE of the 20" sides together. (You have to leave one of the 20" sides open for the pillow to go in.)

Zigzag seam finish the edges you just sewed.

Turn pillow case pretty side out and press.

Place the border over top of the pillow case so that they are pretty sides together and having all raw edges at the top as shown in the photo.

Pin around the top. Stitch.

Zigzag seam finish the seam you just sewed.

There! Your pillow case is done. Have fun making tons more! They make great presents for loved ones.
