STUDIO INFO

Registration and Policies & Procedures for Love to Sew Studio:

Following are your registration options:

In-house: You are invited to register in person during any studio business hours. It is recommended that you call ahead regarding our hours of operation as our schedule varies.

Mail-In: Once placement and availability have been determined by phone or e-mail, you may mail your registration form and payment to the studio to reserve your spot.

Class sizes are very limited (usually 3-8 students per class) and fill up very quickly. For these reasons, you may wish to register as soon as you know your fall or summer schedule. Once registration is received, a place will be reserved for you.  By holding your spot, others may be prevented from joining a class so please notify the studio immediately if you need to change or drop a class.

Registration Fee: We do not charge a yearly registration fee.

Special Note to Parents:

Pick up and Drop off times: Parents, please be considerate and do not drop off your child early or pick her/him up late. Our studio hours do not allow us for extra time between classes. We teach classes, special classes, private lessons, and sewing camps back-to-back, and we do not have a waiting room.

We understand that unavoidable things can happen. If your schedule does not allow you to pick up or drop off your child in a timely fashion, you may call the studio or email us in advance to make arrangements.

We are not a daycare, and we say that lovingly. Parents who drop off their children more than ten minutes early and/or pick up their children more than ten minutes late (without prior notice and arrangements with the studio) will be charged a $30 childcare fee. If the extra time exceeds a half hour, the fee will be raised to $60, and so on.

Waiting Area: We do not have a waiting room or visitation area and our studio is very small. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but please do not treat the studio as a waiting room. Parents may feel free to drop their children off and pick them up at the studio, but not to stay during lesson hours. It is distracting to your own child as well as other students trying to learn and concentrate.

STUDIO GUIDELINES

Communication & Information

Love to Sew Studio sends home newsletters and e-mails throughout the year to keep you informed. Expect to receive emails on a regular basis. Please read them carefully so you will have the needed information regarding tuition, upcoming events, contests, fashion shows, new classes, etc. The director and instructors are available in person or by phone to answer questions, discuss studio events or hold a friendly conversation.   If you have any questions throughout the year, feel free to e-mail us or give us a call. Our website calendar is also a valuable resource to find answers to your questions at any time.

Attendance & Absences

To help students progress confidently, we ask that families make every effort to bring their child to class regularly and promptly. unctuality: and regular attendance is a must for your progression in sewing.  All students are expected to arrive on time for their class and conduct themselves in an orderly fashion while on the premises.

Refund Policy: There are NO refunds, deductions, or credits granted for any missed class or camp, however Crafts of Chadds Ford/Love to Sew Studio offers a generous make-up policy. Make-up classes are available for any class missed due to illness, family vacation, or personal conflict. Make-up classes are preferred to be taken within one month of the missed class or prior to the missed class if you know when you will be absent. However students have until May of each year to do their make-up classes. To schedule a make up class, contact the studio.

Emergency Closings / Inclement Weather

Love to Sew Studio has students that are residing in more than eight school districts. For this reason, we may not be closed on the same days as your school.  Any class that falls on a day in which the studio has a holiday closing does not need to be made up. These dates were accounted for in our payment schedule and are not considered "paid classes".
In the event of inclement weather, it is your responsibility to call the studio for details regarding class cancellations. You are always welcome to make up a class if it is canceled for bad weather. Occasionally we will offer double classes on a different date if bad weather occurs on a day when classes were scheduled.

Class Tuition: Tuition at Love to Sew Studio is based on; by the month, by the camp, or by the special workshop.

Weekly classes have a monthly fee which is based on four weeks a month from September to the following May. We divide the sewing year up into two semesters, Sept. - Dec., and Jan. - May. Each class is counted and calculated from September to December. If holidays and snow days took effect during that time, December fees will be adjusted accordingly. The same is done for May's fee once January to May's fees have been calculated. You will be notified by e-mail for the adjusted fees for December and May.

Sick Days or Family Vacations: If your child is out due to an illness, personal reason, or family vacation, we encourage your child to make up the time for several reason. One, because the time was paid for, and we don't want the students falling behind. Two, we encourage and support perfect attendance and reward students for this at our end of the year party.

(Enrollment) Students Needing a Month or More Off: When you enroll your child at this studio for weekly classes, you are enrolling for an entire season, September through May. However, we do not have a strict policy where a student must sew for an entire sewing year. We understand circumstances come up. Many students have needed to take off a month or two for a sport, school activity, or family illness. If you must take off a month or more, first, you must let us know. If you take off a month without payment, please keep in mind that your return is based on availability, and your spot may have been taken. To hold and guarantee your spot for the month off, you may continue to make the monthly payment, and any time missed during that month can be made up.

Tuition and Payment Options: Tuition may be paid in full at the start of the season in September, or you may choose to pay month to month for weekly classes, or by the camp. You may pay by personal check, cash, or PayPal. PayPal payments can be made to Crafts of Chadds Ford/Love to Sew Studio. We do not send a bill out each month. Payments are due the FIRST class of the month. There is a $10.00 late charge on all payments after the 7th of the month.

**If you pay in full in September for the year, please see our director for the fee to receive your 10% discount. (Cash or Check only)

**Payments received after the first week of the month should include a $10.00 late payment fee.

**Please put payment in an envelope with your child's first and last name on it.

Progress

We are always happy to discuss your child's progress or behavior with you. If you are unable to find time before or after class you are welcome to contact us by phone or email.

If your child loses interest in sewing, seems unhappy, or appears to be under or over challenged, please let us know. Sometimes a change of class time, or changing a challenging project can make all the difference.

Food & Beverages

A large amount of time is spent working on projects in the studio. With this in mind, food, drink, and gum are not permitted in the studio. If we are having a special workshop or studio party in which food is included, the food and drink must stay in the designated area away from projects and fabric.

Studio Awards

Love to Sew Studio awards every student at our End-of-the-Year Party/Picnic with a yearly award. Students who have sewn with Love to Sew Studio consecutively for 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 years will be presented with a trophy. In addition, special awards are given for perfect attendance, fashion design, and to graduating seniors. Also, each student designer who participates in our annual fashion show with a minimum 3-piece collection is presented a trophy.

New Students:

If you are new to the area or new to the art of sewing, WELCOME from Love to Sew Studio.

If you just moved into the area and have taken sewing lessons in the past and already know how to sew, read a pattern, thread a machine, and are between the ages of nine to adult, it is best to call or email the director, Judi Harris, and speak with her personally to see what placement is best for you.

If you are brand new to sewing and are seven or eight years old you may take private lessons until you are nine years old or until otherwise directed by an instructor to move into a regular open sewing class.

If you are brand new to sewing and are between the ages of nine and eighteen, you will need to begin sewing through Private Lessons. Once you have taken two 2-hour private lessons and the instructor feels you are ready, you may move onto a scheduled class dependant upon availability, move onto an independent study program dependant upon availability, or continue with private lessons. We have many students who continue taking private lessons or move into an independent study program instead of joining a class. It is up to the individual needs, wants, and schedule.

We run an "open sewing" studio. That means everyone gets to sew what they want and progress at their own pace. Some are interested in quilt making while others love making crafts. Most of our students are interested in fashion and work towards our annual fashion show. Keep in mind that sewing is a very individual art, and student progress at their own pace. After your private lessons and when you are ready to join in on a sewing class everyone in the class will be working on a different project of their choice just like you.

More Information:

Spring End-of-the-Year Picnic/Party: Each spring we host an annual "End-of-the-Year Sewing Party where students who have sewn with us on a weekly basis, can enjoy some friendly sewing games, sewing competitions, and receive their yearly sewing awards and trophies, perfect attendance awards, and delicious food. We also allow students to vote for each others for some fun sewing superlatives.

Annual Fall Fashion Show: An annual Fall Fashion Show is hosted so that students may have a day to shine and show the looks they have created runway style. Participation in the fashion show is preferred but not mandatory. The show is usually the 3rd or 4th Sunday in September. Detailed information about the fashion show can be found here.

Extra Notes & Helpful Hints: If hair style is in the face, please keep hair secured tightly in a bun, braid, or ponytail. Hair in they eyes can distract the vision for sewing and cutting.

Being Prepared: Students should be dressed comfortably and ready to sew. Shoes must be worn at all times. Shoes must be comfortable and light for touching the foot pedal of the sewing machine. Thick soles, heavy boots, and clogs are not recommended.

Most important: Don't forget to bring your sewing bag to class!!!
