Pretzel Logs |
| |
| Chocolate covered
pretzel logs are great for Christmas parties. They are easy to make,
delicious, and are great for kids because they can be individually
wrapped and the end of the pretzel is left un-covered to use as a
handle which means, less mess. Don't forget to make them in white and
dark chocolate too! |

This homemade candy works best with any of the melted chocolates;
milk, dark, or white. However, sometimes you may need a second coat while
covering the pretzels with white chocolate, if the first coat is too thin
and you can see the brown in the pretzel. Use the pretzels that taste best
to your liking. I only use Herrs pretzels (Only found on the east coast of
the US.) and Merkens chocolate because that is what my family likes the
best. If the pretzels have a lot of salt on them rub some off. As you dip
the pretzels some of the salt will go into the melted chocolate making the
chocolate taste salty by the end process.
Melt the chocolate wafers to the
correct consistency. Turn off the heat and remove pan from stove. Make
sure your chocolate is not too hot and thin because it will not cover the
pretzel correctly. Hold the pretzel log on one end and dip it
into the melted chocolate. Let it drip for a little bit in the pan. Then
transfer to a piece of wax paper to harden. Do not dip the whole pretzel.
Leave about 2" of the end of the pretzel plain. This leaves a "handle" for
the person eating the pretzel so that the chocolate does not melt all over
their hand. If you want to add nuts, m&m's, sprinkles, or any other type
of extra edible candy now is the time to do it so the little candies will
stick to the pretzel while it hardens. |
| Once
the pretzels logs are nice and hard you may package them. Chocolate covered
pretzels logs work best displayed and packaged individually. They look
nice arranged on a long pretty antique dish with
Christmas greenery surrounding it. Put one in a bag and tie up
with a pretty ribbon and mini ornament or greenery. These little packages
make nice gift toppers, stocking stuffers, and teacher's gifts. |
