Appliquéd Quilts

 Photo Page

Maddie made this awesome flag quilt for a school project when she portrayed Betsy Ross. She made the cap too! We used "crackled" and "stained" fabric to give the appearance of "an old flag". Excellent job!!!

Here is the most Awesome quilt!  I just love Jacqueline's " Castle Quilt".  She took her time and it shows.  It took her over 25 hours to make this beautiful quilt. This quilt was under consideration for "Best of Show" in the quilt category at a local sewing  competition.  She took 1st place at the show.

Traditionally, most appliqué on quilts were sewn by hand with turned under edges by needle or pressed under, or over a template.

Today quicker and easier methods of appliqué techniques work fine.  This can be done with fusible web to fasten the appliqué piece and then machine stitch with free motion,  or with a close set zigzag stitch to form a satin stitch edging.

The fun thing about quilt appliquéing is that you can experiment with it and see what looks and works best for you. Many websites today offer free quilt patterns, beginner quilt patterns, and easy free quilt patterns. If you want to make an appliqué quilt of "a scene" and you don't have a good artist hand for drawing the scenes then here are some suggestions:

1.Have a friend who is pretty good at art draw you something, enlarge it to the size you want your appliqué quilt to be, then have fun cutting it out and making your quilt.

2.Take a photograph that you already have and enlarge it to the size you want your quilt, copy it, then have fun transferring it to different color fabrics and fusing into a quilt.

3.Go through child's coloring books and look for art work you can enlarge, copy, and then quilt.

4.Go on the internet to Free clip art and see if there are some art works that you could use.

The ideas are endless.  Appliqué quilting is just like drawing a new picture, but you are using fabric and quilting it instead!!!

Here is Catherine's "African" quilt.  This was Catherine's THIRD quilt that she made. Great job Catherine.

This is Katherine's SECOND appliqué" quilt that she made.  Isn't it just adorable with the cute kitty cat, ghost, and pumpkin.

This was Catherine's 1st quilt she made.  She designed it on paper first and then cut out fabric and appliquéd it all on.  I just love kitty cats too!  Excellent job!

Sara made this appliquéd quilt for her grand parents Christmas gift. She signed and dated the back.  This is a gift her grand parents will cherish for ever.

This was Katherine's first quilt she made.  She took her time and was very proud of her little heart quilt.  It's home is on the back of a chair in the family den.
