Making a Memory Quilt; Photo Quilt

Emily and her memory quilt she made her family for Christmas.

About Memory Quilts  Memory Quilts or Photo Quilts are real fun and rewarding to make. They make awesome gifts for friends and family members.  They look difficult to make but are rather easy.
Best Fabric to Use - Any type of cotton calico will work great.  Just go in the quilting section of a fabric store or go to a quilt shop to buy your fabrics. With these quilt because they were memories of childhood, we picked black/grey fabrics and put on black and white photographs.
Easy type Pattern - The easiest type of memory quilt would be to put together rows of 8" squares of different fabrics as you can see the photo above or below.
Difficult type Pattern A more difficult type of memory quilt would be to do an advanced quilt top with lots of pattern and pieces.  I DO NOT suggest this type of quilt top for a memory quilt.  The business of the the quilt top will take away from the photographs.
Cost & Fabric Usage Take into consideration the cost of your fabric, batting, backing, and the most expensive part of this quilt will probably be the computer fabric. Oh, and the ink for your computer.  In general this is a more expensive quilt to make the your regular quilts.
Comments - Memory or Photo quilts are a great quilt to make that one can keep forever. They are in general quite easy to make. However, the process of transferring photos to the fabric paper through your computer is difficult.  See below for detailed information about it.

Handmade Memory or Photo quilts are a one of a kind family heirloom. Using today's technology with lazars, printers, and scanners, one can combine technology with their sewing skills and create a beautiful memory or photo quilt.

Here are the girls gathering up pearls, lace, buttons, and bows to add to their memory quilt to make it look more aged or old-fashioned.
