Photos of Rag, Raggedy, and Ragged Handmade Quilts

Rag quilts are awesome, and fun and easy to stitch up. There are no right or wrong sides to a raggedy quilt. Both sides are pretty! The best fabric to use for making rag quilts are fabrics that rag or fray nicely, like: cotton, denim, homespun, and flannel.

You need a heavy duty sewing machine to make a raggedy quilt this big!

This large raggedy quilt was made for a king size bed for a friend who is re-doing their room in red, black, and white colors with a black finish on their furniture.

Holiday Rag Quilts To Stitch Up

Katherine's beautiful autumn raggedy quilt with applique leaves.

Katherine made this Rag Quilt of beautiful fall colors, then she appliquéd autumn leaves on every other square.  She took 2nd place at a community fair in the quilt division.

Christmas raggedy quilt with ragged hearts and trees!

Take a close look at the hearts and the trees, they are ragged.  The rest of the quilt is pieced patch work, but the hearts and trees were sewn on in two layers and then ragged.

Susan from New Richmond, Ohio made this quilt for her son and daughter-in-law. She says, "I Love Making These Quilts!"

Here's a photo of a large handmade raggedy quilt made into a peace sign.

To Learn More About Rag Quilt Making  we suggest A Year of Rag Quilts.   It's our favorite Raggedy Quilting book to use in our studio.  Also, we offer free photographed instructions on "How to Make a Rag Quilt" as an excellent guide for rag quilting.

A patriotic raggedy quilt that looks like a rustic and ragged flag.

Here is a raggedy flag quilt! It's very patriotic, and looks rustic and ragged. This would look great on a wall or an antique chair in a cottage or country home. This was one of my biggest selling raggedy quilts when I sold them at crafts shows throughout the east coast near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Here is a cute raggedy quilt made just for a puppy, from puppy fabric.

Kelly from Albany Oregon  made this quilt for her friends new puppy, Lacy.  He was worried that she would chew it up, but instead she covers herself up!  When it's in the dryer she won't go to bed without it; she waits for it to be dried.  He now thanks me every time he sees me, for the Lacy Quilt.

What a beautiful very large raggedy quilt that John made and showed in a local quilt show.

A man we met at a Quilt Show made this beautiful Christmas Tree Rag Quilt.  When Amber saw it, we had to take her picture next to it since she had made the mini version.

Both sides of a raggedy quilt are pretty sides.

The other pretty side of a Rag Quilt...Both sides are the pretty sides of a Rag Quilt.  Here is Amber's miniature version of the quilt shown to the left.

We LOVE our AccuQuilt Fabric Cutter! Once you have bought the cutter and all its accessories that are included, you can add onto the collection and purchase new die sets when you are ready. This makes cutting fabric in all shapes and sizes much quicker, more accurate, and safer.

Here's a quilt that was made by both raggedy quilt technique and machine applique.

I just adore this quilt that Shirley made and shares with us. The blocks and outside were ragged, and the flowers were machine appliquéd on. How clever and beautiful!
