| Open seam is also
known as the basic seam and is the most common seam used in sewing. It can
and will probably be used in making garments, quilts, pillows, dolls, and
crafts.
To make an open seam place fabric
pretty sides together so that the seams lines meet. Pin. Stitch
using the desired seam allowance. Press seams open.
The raw edges of this seam need to be
finished.
|
| There are different
ways to finish the raw edges of an open seam. They depend on the
fabric that will be used on a garment. All seam allowances should be an
even width. |

In a rare occasion an
open seam may not need to be finished. This open seam is made of
fleece and is going to be a house robe. There is not an urgency to finish
this seam allowance. Fleece fabric does not un ravel and house robes
do not get thrown in the wash that often. However, for a neater
appearance, one might want to finish the seam. |
