How to Make a Self-Lined Patch Pocket

How to sew a self-lined patch pocket. How to sew a patch pocket on a quilted messanger bag.

The photo on the left shows the self-lined patch pocket which was placed in the quilted messenger bag (right photo) I made.

Cut the pocket and the lining the size you would like them to be. Cut them both the same size.  Make sure you allow an extra 1/2 all the way around the pocket for seam allowance.
Pin Pretty sides together.
Using the pressure foot as your guide stitch around the pocket leaving the center of one side open for turning.

Trim seams and clip corners if necessary.

Turn pocket pretty side out and poke out corners. Press flat. Hand stitch the opening closed.
Pin the pocket in place on garment/project. Make sure the side that had the opening is on the bottom or one of the sides. (Not the top.)
Top stitch around the pocket on the two sides and bottom, leaving the top open.
Notice the nice lined pocket in place.  A self lined pocket is both  nicer in appearance and practical than a pocket with no lining.
Now I have a nice lined pocket on the inside lining of my messenger bag.

Here is a photo of both a square and a rounded bottom self lined pocket that were stitched side by side in a bag for more pocket space.
