Sewing and Making Felt Crafts

About Felt Crafts - Felt crafts are fun to make.  Felt comes in bright colors and can be made into many wonder crafts.
Best Fabric to Use - Felt fabric comes in different weights.  It also comes in a "fur" type of felt.  The best type of felt to use would be a medium weight fabric.  To thin of felt is easily torn.
Easy type Pattern - As seen in the picture above, the happy face bean bag would be considered an easy pattern.  It is only 2 pieces and you simply sew in a circle.
Difficult type Pattern - The frog as seen in the picture above would be considered a more difficult pattern.  It has 6 pattern pieces and a lot of little curves to sew around and cut around.
Pattern Pieces - Felt crafts can have as little as one pattern piece as seen in the happy face bean bag, and up to many pattern pieces depending on the project.
Cost & Fabric usage - Little felt projects of about the size of 10" can cost as little as a couple of dollars to make.
Comments - Felt is a "pressed" fabric, not a woven fabric. A felt seam is harder to rip out then a seam of cotton fabric.  Please read the felt fabric page to learn more on SEWING WITH FELT.

Another type of Felt is Wool Felt.  Wool felt is made by a process that is done to wool which shrinks it's fibers making it a "harder" fabric or more "dense" type of fabric. Wool Felt is a non woven blend of wool and other fibers which are bonded together by heat, pressure, chemical, or a combination. Wool Felt fabric is awesome to work with and can be found on clothing items, accessories, crafts, and quilts.  It is a wonderful fabric to use for appliqué.

These very cool Ballet Slippers were made from fabric and felt.

This is my little version of "Sponge Bob Square Pants".  He is made of yellow, brown, white, and blue felt.

Here are some recommended books for working with felt. Some of theses books requires no sewing. I have arranged these books by the easiest to the more difficult ones at the bottom. Some Books even teach you how to make felt.
