Shaping the Bodice or Body of a Garment

(Darts, Gathering, Pleats, Tucks)

When making clothes, a flat piece of material must be shaped so that it will fit on a human figure.  There are a couple of ways to do this...

-Sewing seams to fit a body, such as a shoulder seam, or princess seams so that the garment lies on the body.

-Shape the garment by sewing pleats, darts, or gathering.
