Straight lined, back slit skirt has an elastic waist band and is made from light weight cotton fabric. Jacqueline made this skirt for summer time.

Pictured is the wrong side of a straight lined back slit skirt in the process of being made.  Notice the slit in the back.  Notice the elastic being put through the waist band at the top.

Pictured is the wrong side of the skirt once the elastic waist band has been put in.  This type of skirt is the easiest type of skirt to make and is great for  beginners.

Jackie's adorable bubble skirt.  This was made from a soft wool cotton plaid fabric.  Her bubble skirt is fully lined and has a back zipper.

Straight lined. back slit skirt has an elastic waist band and is made from heavy denim fabric.

Pictured is a long gown skirt made of satin fabric,  in the process of being made.  It is a replica of a civil war gown, that will be worn at a costume show. Jessica is making this skirt for Prom.

Here is Jessica's completed skirt. After watching  "Gone With the Wind" Jessica decided to design on paper her idea of the skirt she wanted to make.  She bought a simple long skirt pattern, the fabric, and lace, and then spent many hours altering, designing, and making  her skirt.  What a beautiful finished article of clothing.

Pictured is a full skirt, also known as a circle skirt with and added poodle sewn on to give it a 1950's look.

To Learn More About Making Your Own Clothes we suggest Christine Haynes book Chic and Simple Sewing .  It's our favorite sewing book to use for beginners in our studio, and patterns are included.  We also recommend Project RUNWAY DVDs to view as an excellent guide for fashion design.
