Studio is celebrating their 11th year of
running a successful sewing studio which continues to grow. We
want to help you succeed in teaching kids and adults to sew too!
Our Sewing Instructors Starter Kit is simply that...
a starter kit for those who have the desire to teach others to
sew. There are no hidden fees or cost. There are no pattern
packets to purchase or anything else to purchase from us. You do
not have to join or register with us like other programs have you
do. We began in the corner of the family den and now
operate a very successful sewing studio with several instructors
teaching more than 200 students each year. For our Sewing
Instructors Starter Kit we gathered 11 years worth of the
good and bad, the trials and errors, and put together a package to
help you on your way to your own successful sewing studio. Why not
make money doing something you love; Make

In 2001 Love to Sew Studio began by using the corner area of our
family den with four students.

Within the first year we outgrew our little
corner of the family den and
had a 9'X15' sunroom built to use for the studio. We had
grown to 20 full time weekly students and over 100 students for summer camps.

By 2009 we "officially" had a studio attached to the
house with our own front entrance, bathroom, loft, 8 sewing machines, 6
dress forms, and exit leading to the picnic area for summer camp
lunches.

Starting Your Very Own
Sewing Studio...teach others to Sew.
Sew,... your thinking
about starting your own sewing studio, and you want to teach others to
sew? These are some
ideas that I learned from trial and error with my sewing studio. Some
things worked for the good and others didn't. In some places I
profited and others I lost money. So sit back, grab a cup of
tea, while I share some of my ideas with you.
(One thing I would like
to share with you before you continue, the MOST asked question I
receive by e-mail is ,"Do you have a location in....."
People are always asking me if I have a location near them. They are
searching for an awesome sewing school either for their child or
themselves. I have some students that drive 2 1/2 hours and even some who
stay in hotels b/c they come from great distances to attend our school and
camps. This is not the
ordinary sewing school. It is much more. My goal, my dream, is to have
what I offer, all over the USA, to bring back a dying art, which I believe
is already happening. I believe sewing, quilting, craft making, and
fashion design is on a come back. There is a GREAT demand for it.
I want everyone to have to opportunity to sew, quilt, craft, or fashion
design like I did. The skill of sewing is what our county began with,
and still needs. With that in mind, if you are serious about opening up
your own sewing school, consider our "Sewing Teacher Starter" kit and
open up another school like "Love to Sew Studio" near you.)
Let's set
up your sewing area |
|
First, and most important...
You must know how to sew. You don't need to be an expert.
If you don't know how to sew, then take a course or two at a
local fabric store. (It really is very simple).
Second, you need to find an "area" where you
will teach. When I began several years ago, it was a corner area
in my family den. Now I have grown to 3 rooms in my house.
This area is for your sewing school ONLY. Set this rule and
keep it!!!! You don't want to have to be moving tables and sewing
machines, and ironing boards around. Make sure if the area is
in your home, that ALL of your family understands that this is your
area. If you don't have the room in your home, check with your
local churches and schools. In most cases they will be thrilled to
let you do an after school sewing program.
Once you have an area, you need to organize
it. Keep your supplies ready at all times. Place a
safety poster up so everyone can see it. If you don't have one
then make a simple one, with the basic rules. (don't run with
scissors, don't put your fingers on the needle of the sewing
machine, don't touch the iron when it is hot, etc...) Keep
your patterns, supplies, thread, etc...at a handy accessible area.
Display many samples of the projects
students can make. Kids LOVE THIS!!! They love to look at all
of the samples!!! Hang them on the walls, hang them from the
ceiling, put them on shelves. Make your area very appealing to
the eye.
Have a VERY STURDY table for your sewing
machines and good comfortable chairs for sitting. Have a
cutting table and an ironing board accessible. Make sure all of your
supplies are clearly marked and each box or basket has its own
place.

This is just
the beginning.
