How to Make a Tu-Tu
This
no-sew tu-tu is quick and easy to make. This tu-tu was originally made
just for fun but ended up being seen in our Learn to Sew ad for
VOGUE magazine, and was used for a photo shoot for
our Chic Weekly magazine article "The
Circus is Back in Town."
To make your tutu you will
need:
-soft netting fabric
-1" silky ribbon
For a more dramatic tutu combine 3 colors
of soft netting fabrics as shown in the photo above.
Cut the ribbon long enough to go around
your waist plus 30".
Cut the netting into 2" strips and 24"
long.
Fold one strip in half and
place under the ribbon.
Take both ends from the bottom
of the ribbon and bring them over the ribbon and through the loop as
shown.
Pull tight enough to form a
knot as shown.
Continue this method
alternating colors as shown in the photo.
Continue until the tutu is as
full as you want it to be around your waist.
Enjoy wearing your tutu!
You can also add leaves, flowers, buttons,
or bows to embellish your tutu.
Send us a photo,
we'd love to see it and post it on our site.
To Learn More About
Making Your Own Clothes we suggest Christine Haynes book Chic and Simple Sewing
. It's our favorite sewing book to use for beginners in our studio, and
patterns are included. We also recommend Project RUNWAY DVDs
to view as an excellent guide for fashion design.
