First make a heart
pattern from paper. Make sure the heart is small enough to fit inside
fabric rectangles you have cut out. |
 |
Cut out 6 red hearts.
Place on the pretty side, in the center of each white square and
zigzag appliqué on. |
 |
Now let's make our rows.
Sew your fabric rectangles to make four rows. Two rows should be "heart /
strip fabric / heart" as shown in the photo.
The other two rows should be "stripped fabric / heart /
stripped fabric" as shown in the photo below.
Make sure you have your fabrics pretty sides
together and use the pressure foot as your
guide when you sew the rows. |
 |
Once you have all your
rows sewn, now sew all the rows together to
form your quilt top. To do so place two rows pretty sides together
matching seams. Pin and stitch using the pressure foot as your guide.
Continue to do so until all four rows have been sewn together. Cut borders 5" by the length of each side.
Make sure the top and bottom border have an extra 10" to allow for the
side borders. |
 |
Sew on the side borders first,
then the top and bottom border. |
 |
Press your quilt! |
 |
Using your quilt top as
a pattern, cut a quilt backing the same size from Valentine fabric, and
cut quilt batting the same size. Now place the batting down
first, then the back of the quilt fabric with the pretty side facing up, and last the quilt
top pretty
side down as shown in the photo.
Pin all the way around the quilt. Leave a 6"
opening on one side. Stitch around the quilt edge using the pressure foot
as your guide. (Don't' forget to leave the opening.) |
 |
Trim seams and clip
corners. Turn your quilt pretty side out and press. Hand stitch the
opening closed. Tie knots with yarn or pretty ribbon going through all 3
layers to quilt your quilt.
Happy Sewing!
