Easy Yarn Crafts to Make:

How to Make a Yarn Sea Octopus Creature

How to Make a Yarn Octopus Under the Sea Creature Craft for Kids

This adorable yarn sea creature, the octopus, is an easy to make yarn craft. He is great to make for a brownie or girl scout troop, or just to do on a rainy day.  Almost 40 years ago, this was my first no-sew craft I ever made at a brownie meeting at age 7.  I loved (and still do) making crafts so much that I wanted to share this project with my friends. I came home, gathered up supplies, invited my neighborhood friends over, and taught everyone how to make one!

You Will Need:
different color yarn
2 googly eyes
styrofoam balls (2", 3", or 4" depending on how big you want the octopus to be)
basic arts & crafts supplies
Pin It
All you need is yarn, a styro ball, and eyes to make the yarn octopus craft for kids. This easy yarn octopus craft for kids can be done in any yarn color you prefer.  Any size Styrofoam ball will do, depending on how big you want your octopus.  I used a 3" round ball.
Cut 32 pieces of yarn for the Octopus yarn craft for kids. With the yarn that you want to make your octopus body in, cut 32 pieces of yarn measuring 36".

(The pieces of yarn depends on how thick your yarn is and what size ball you have, so you may need to cut more pieces of yarn to wrap around the ball.)

Place the yarn around the styro ball evenly to make the yarn octopus craft for kids. Holding all the pieces of yarn find the half way point of your yarn pieces and place them over the Styrofoam ball just as the photo shows.  Make sure you can not see any white on the ball and that your yarn is covering all of it.
Tie a tight knot around the yarn of the yarn octopus creature. With your other color yarn, tie a bow TIGHTLY around the bottom of the Styrofoam ball as shown in the photo.
Divide the yarn into 8 pieces, just like an Octopus for this under the sea yarn octopus creature craft for kids. Divide your Octopus into 8 equal parts.
Now it's time to braid the yarn for the yarn octopus craft. You are going to braid each of the 8 parts.  Do these one at a time. Tie a knot or bow at the end of each Octopus leg.
